Mr. Macaulay is
Symbionce’s Senior Vice President of
Business Development and has more than 28 years of corporate experience,
of
which 15 years were spent in healthcare which includes his work as
management
with Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company, a principal
operating
subsidiary of the Unum Group; and Transamerica. After healthcare he
became a
vice-president with Recomm International, where he developed the company
from 2
employees to over 485 employees’ nationwide, and grew sales from
$200,000/ year
to over $250 million in sales/year; and then president of Macaulay
Marketing, a
company which creates the many relationships that includes starting ups,
financing, business development and strategic partners, sales and
marketing, and exit strategies. Throughout his career, Mr. Macaulay has
been instrumental in identifying key personnel, strategic partnerships
and
channels, along with financing opportunities. Some of Mr. Macaulay’s
past
and present projects include: Admark, The Ball Co., Celerity Technology
Partners, TMS North America, Beka Development, and United Optical
Technologies. Mr. Macaulay was previously an officer for a revenue
cycle
management company where he was responsible for fund raising activities
and
sales.
Mr. Macaulay earned his
undergraduate degree from
University of Georgia in Risk Management.
The Healthcare Financial Management Association (“HFMA”)
certified Ms. Brown, President, Revenue Cycle Management Division, as one of
the first Managed Care Specialists in the country. Carolyn previously
served as the Senior Vice President of Healthcare Operations for a national
accounts receivable management firm in charge of the healthcare operations in
eight offices. She has worked with several major metropolitan medical
centers and rural hospitals and most recently was the Corporate Vice President
for Business Services for Renaissance America, Inc., a physical rehabilitation
hospital chain, where she was over all business offices in the chain. Ms.
Brown has helped implement and reengineer MSOs and CBOs of several large
hospital chains. Ms. Brown has more than 20 years of business office,
reimbursement and third party accounting experience; has performed numerous
hospital (including hospital-based SNFs and rehabilitation units) and physician
business office operation reviews and turnarounds; and, has expertise in the
establishment of physician practices, rehabilitation hospitals and units, and
rural health clinics. She is well versed in compliance regulations as
established by the Office of the Inspector General and has conducted numerous
seminars regarding compliance as related to the business office. Ms.
Brown previously served on the National HFMA Certification Task Force, where
she conducted national phone conferences with National HFMA regarding
certification planning; on the Board of the Tennessee HFMA; and as President of
the Tennessee Chapter of the American Association of Healthcare Account
Managers (“AAHAM”). The Tennessee Chapter of HFMA and the National PFS Forum honored Ms. Brown in 2003 by being chosen to receive the distinguished PFS Award of Excellence.
Ms. Brown has served as a speaker on a variety of
healthcare topics, including management service organizations, implementing
central business offices and business office operations, insurance billing,
access management issues, receivables management, rural health clinics,
rehabilitation hospitals and units, billing and reimbursement for geriatric
psych units, and physician practice management. Ms. Brown previously
conducted coaching seminars for the HFMA core certification for both the
Tennessee and Georgia chapters every quarter as well as other Chapters such as
Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, and
has assisted numerous individuals in HFMA obtain certification in core and
specialized areas of healthcare financial management. In June 2004,
taught the National Coaching Exam for the core course at the Annual National
Institute for HFMA in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gary Austin - Senior Vice President – Business
Development/Sales
Mr.
Austin is an experienced and visionary entrepreneur
with
more than 20 years of “C” level corporate experience in business and
capital
development. He has deep experience in the electronic payments industry
from
both a banking and healthcare perspective. Mr. Austin is the founder of
HERO,
Inc., a holding company managing intellectual property in the payment
card
based cash rewards business. He developed client relationships with some
of the
country’s leading financial institutions such as Citibank, Chase
Merchant
Services, and Discover. He is also the inventor of the patent on
merchant
paid cash reward payment cards. Gary is also the founder of Clearwave
Corporation (a member of the Gingrich Center for Health Transformation)
and the
inventor of the RFID Card and kiosk-based, patient check-in/check-out
system
for healthcare. Mr. Austin raised more than $15 Million in early-stage
private and venture capital for HERO and Clearwave. Prior to HERO Mr.
Austin was Field Director for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance
Company.
Mr. Austin was previously a
board member and officer for a
revenue cycle management company where he was responsible for the
development
and creation of new revenue cycle management ideas to change the way
that
healthcare functions.
Alan D. Goldberg, FHFMA - Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Goldberg currently serves as the Chief Financial
Officer for Symbionce. He previously worked with Ernst & Young, KPMG Peat
Marwick, Hospital Corporation of America, and was Executive Vice President and
Corporate Chief Financial Officer of Renaissance America, Inc., a physical
rehabilitation hospital chain. Most recently, he was the chief financial
officer for a technology revenue cycle management firm and over real estate acquisition and sales for distressed real estate where he was been involved assisting large building owners with accelerating tax benefits and assisting in the disposition of property via straight investor sales and competitive bidding via the auction process. Prior to that he worked
for approximately fourteen years as an executive with the 12th largest accounts
receivable management firm in the country and a key partner in a leveraged
buyout of one its most profitable divisions for several years. He has
considerable experience in operating healthcare facilities such as acute care
and rehabilitation hospitals, physician practices, CORFs, MSOs, and rural
health clinics; in undertaking nursing home feasibility studies; in
reengineering the operations of healthcare facilities, including MSOs; and with
startup corporations, new rural health clinics and new physician
practices. Mr. Goldberg has served as an officer and on the Board of the
Georgia HFMA and recently served as an officer and as Board Secretary. He
has been a contributing editor for Southern Hospitals magazine and
currently serves on the National Editorial Review Board for the National HFMA
monthly magazine, as a chairman of a Board committee for Georgia HFMA and as
Vice-President of the AAHAM Tennessee chapter. He has served as a
chairman of a Board committee for Georgia HFMA for the last fifteen
years. He has recently been awarded the National Medal of Honor Award
by HFMA, was first runner-up for the Most Valuable Member of the Georgia
Chapter in 2001, received the Most Valuable Member of the Georgia
Chapter of HFMA in 2003, received the President’s Award from the Georgia
Chapter in 2003, received the Ann P. Longshore Award of Distinction in
2004, received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for the Georgia Chapter
in 2005, and continues to serve as a speaker for numerous seminars on a
variety of healthcare topics. Mr. Goldberg received his undergraduate
degree from NC State University and a Masters in Business Administration and
Masters in Accounting from the University of South Carolina with a
concentration in Computer Science.
